Because of escalating ground rent charges, mortgage companies were refusing to lend on it and so she lost three buyers; she eventually sold the flat for £30,000 less than its market value, and £5,000 less than she paid for it ten years ago. The original conveyancer had failed to advise her about any of the potential implications should the ground rent rise to >£250.00 per annum at the next review.
